Universidad Catolica defeats rivals Universidad de Chile in Chile


In a thrilling derby, Universidad Catolica defeated Universidad de Chile 3-2 to go to the 2010 Copa Libertadores and maintain their hopes of winning the Chilean title. Losers Universidad de Chile, meanwhile, are essentially eliminated from contention.


La Catolica controlled a large portion of the game and went ahead 3-0 as early as the 47th minute. The goals were scored by Davide Henriquez, Milovan Mirosevic, and Rodrigo Toloza. Felipe Seymour and Juan Manuel Olivera scored late goals to make the game’s closing seconds exciting.


Two players, one from each side, were dismissed following physical altercations.


Universidad Catolica increased its advantage at the top of the standings with the victory. While there is still one round remaining in the competition, Universidad de Chile has plummeted to ninth position and faces losing its spot in the next round.


Colo Colo, the most well-liked club in Chile, advanced to the next round with a straightforward 2-0 victory over Cobresal. Rodrigo Millar and Cristian Bogado converted Colo Colo’s goals.


In other games, Huachipato defeated Palestino by the same score, while La Serena defeated O’Higgins by the same margin.
