Chile: Diego Cagna is named as Colo’s next head coach Colo

Following Hugo Tocalli’s resignation last Tuesday, the club announced that former Boca Juniors captain Diego Cagna had been named the team’s new head coach. On April 26, Cagna will go to Chile, where he will be formally introduced as the team’s new coach.

Guillermo Mackenna, the president of the “Blanco y Negro” directory, stated, “We are very delighted with the decision taken by Diego Cagna to become the coach of Colo Colo and in the name of the directory I congratulate him for consenting to be part of the sports project of our club.”

According to Mackenna, the coach’s “basic goal for Colo Colo is the development of a top-notch team, which will enable us to achieve the success that our supporters deserve in the various tournaments.”

The 40-year-old Cagna made his managerial debut with Tigre in 2007 and led the underdog Buenos Aires club to a runner-up finish in the Argentine championship the same year.

Although there had been persistent rumors in recent weeks that he may take over as coach at Boca Juniors, the Argentine powerhouses never made him a formal offer, and he chose Colo Colo instead.
