Palmeiras ink, transfers Michael Assuncao

The addition of seasoned midfielder Marcos Assuncao, who competed for Gremio Prudente in the Paulista league, has been confirmed by Palmeiras. The veteran will meet with Palmeiras manager Antonio Carlos Zago next week after reaching a deal with the Palestra Italia team until June 2011.

Assuncao, 33, has extensive experience playing in the best European football divisions after representing AS Roma in Italy and Real Betis in Spain. He represented the Brazilian national team while playing for Flamengo and Santos in his native Brazil.

The midfielder is eager to join Palmeiras and tells the supporters of the team that he will always offer his best effort.

It is a tremendous chance to be able to play for a team as large as Palmeiras. I appreciate everyone who has faith in my football. I won’t let you down. Assuncao stated, “On the contrary, I’m in excellent shape and the Palmeiras supporters can anticipate from me entire devotion, as I have shown in all the teams I played for.

Assuncao will be trying to apply all of his expertise to Palmeiras. Gilberto Cipullo, the club’s vice-president, is aware of the player’s history (Assuncao won the Copa del Rey with Betis and the Serie A with Roma), and he thinks Assuncao will be successful at Palmeiras.

He provides crucial reinforcement. He is a competent midfielder who excels in dead-ball situations due to the force of his shot, which makes it challenging for the opposition goalie. At Palmeiras, I have no doubt he will achieve tremendous success,” said Cipullo.
