Zubeldia will continue to coach Lanus in Argentina

Zubeldia is going to stay at Lanus for another year.

After reaching an understanding with the club’s administrators on Tuesday, Luis Zubeldia will continue in his role as coach of Lanus of Buenos Aires. Zubeldia will continue at the club for another year, despite the fact that his squad underperformed in the just-finished Argentine Clausura championship, was ousted from the Copa Libertadores at the group stage, and was unable to advance to the Copa Sudamericana.

The club directors told the 29-year-old coach that they were pleased with his entire performance and that they anticipate him to guide Lanus in the correct way once more next season—in the Argentine Apertura championship. The reunion lasted more than three hours.

In August 2008, with the 2-0 victory over Racing Club, Zubeldia took over the role from Ramon Cabrero, who aided him in the club’s first-ever league title victory in the 2007 Apertura tournament.

After a string of disappointing performances, the coach announced his resignation in February 2010, but the club officials persuaded him to stay.

At a press conference on Friday, Zubeldia’s contract renewal will be formally announced.
