Universidad Catolica wins the regular season in Chile

With a 2-1 victory over Universidad de Concepcion, Universidad Catolica finished first in the opening round of the Chilean Clausura competition. The Chilean giants enter the playoffs as the clear favorites to win the championship with 38 points from 17 games.

Juan Jose Moralez’s hat-trick (goals 14, 16, and 66) and another goal from Francisco Silva helped La ‘UC’ win the game (90). Concepcion got a consolation goal from Paraguayan Otelo Ocampos.

Even though Palestino defeated Colo Colo, the most well-liked team in Chile, 2-1, Colo Colo still made it into the playoffs. The visitors earned the three points thanks to two goals from Francisco Ibanez. Colo Colo’s lone goal was scored by Philip Araos.

Everton and Curico tied 1-1 in the first half to earn a playoff spot. Mauro Guevgeozian and Francisco Saavedra scored in that period. For Curico, Marcos Flores and Juan Jose Albornoz made conversions.

After losing to Huachipato 1-0 on Luis Ignacio Quinteros’ goal, Universidad de Chile kept up their dismal run of results. Jose Basualdo, the Argentine coach, had to leave after the defeat.

La Serena ended the regular season in second place after defeating Municipal Iquique 2-1. Municipal Iquique had previously been demoted. For La Serena, Mauricio Salazar and Sebastian Tagliabue scored goals; for the guests, Cristian Campozano scored.
