League leaders Libertad and Nacional suffer defeat in Paraguay

The top two teams in the Paraguayan Clausura championship, Libertad and Nacional, were defeated over the weekend. Libertad was defeated 2-1 by 3 de Febrero, and Nacional was defeated 4-3 by Tacuary.

Libertad was defeated by the weak 3 de Febrero because they could not use their home-field advantage. Javier Garcia tied the score for Libertad in the 37th minute after Emilio Garcete gave the visitors the lead in the 11th minute. On the verge of the end, Orlando Zayas awarded 3 de Febrero the three points.

In the most thrilling game of the round, Tacuary defeated Nacional 4-3 thanks to goals from Jose Nunez (2), Ramon Cardozo (2), and Lorenzo Silva (3).

With 31 points, Libertad and Nacional are still in the first place. However, Olimpia and Rubio Nu, with 28 points, are just behind them.

After overcoming Sportivo Luqueno, Olimpia, the only Paraguayan team to have won the Copa Libertadores, is still in contention for the championship. Rubio Nu defeated Guarani by a score of 2-1.

Arnaldo Sialle, the Guarani coach, was fired as a result of that loss, and Felix Dario Leon, the club’s previous head coach, will take his position.

Cerro Porteno, who are in the Copa Sudamericana semifinals, defeated 12 de Octubre 3-2 with goals from Ivan Gonzalez (2) and Julio dos Santos (1).

On Wednesday in Asuncion, the opening leg of the Copa Sudamericana semifinals will feature Cerro Porteno vs Fluminense of Brazil. In Rio de Janeiro, the tie will be settled six days later.
