In round twelve of the Argentine Clausura championship, Chacarita Juniors defeated Boca Juniors 4-1 to snap a streak of four straight losses. Four goals in the second half ultimately gave Chacarita a convincing victory against Boca, who entered the game in good spirits after defeating archrivals River Plate the previous week.
It was the perfect way to make his Chacarita coaching debut as his team outperformed the Argentine giants. When he successfully finished off a crisp Juan Roman Riquelme through ball, Matias Gimenez gave Boca the lead early on.
However, Chacarita controlled the second half when Facundo Parra tied the score just two minutes in. A few minutes later, Javier Garcia stopped a penalty kick from Parra, but Nicolas Ramirez headed in the rebound.
In the closing 10 minutes, goals from Parra and Sciorilli gave Chacarita a rare victory over Boca.
Despite playing to a 1-1 tie at Colon de Santa Fe, Independiente still holds the top spot. Lionel Nunez led Independiente an early lead in a game when three players were dismissed, but Esteban Fuertes saved Colon a point.
On Saturday, Racing Club defeated Newell’s Old Boys 1-0, Lanus defeated Tigre 1-0, and Banfield defeated Gimnasia La Plata in a thrilling 3-2 result.
After defeating Godoy Cruz 2-1 on Friday, Estudiantes de La Plata is still in the running for the championship thanks to goals from Mauro Boselli and Gaston Fernandez in the first half.
