Ronaldo’s goal keeps Corinthians alive in Brazil

At the Teixeirao stadium on Sunday, Corinthians defeated Ituano 2-0 thanks to a goal from Brazilian superstar Ronaldo. This victory puts Timao in the running for a spot in the semifinals of the Paulista State championship. It was difficult for Corinthians to break down Ituano, but they scored twice in the closing ten minutes to secure an important victory.

Jucilei and Ronaldo scored goals to give Corinthians the victory after a sluggish beginning in which they were unable to rediscover their best form. With 10 minutes left in the second half, midfielder Jucilei’s excellent header gave Corinthians the lead.

Ronaldo connected to a Tcheco ball with a straightforward goal in the 86th minute to give Corinthians the victory. After contributing to one of Corinthians’ two goals in their victory against Cerro Porteno in the Copa Libertadores on Thursday, the striker maintained his outstanding scoring streak. When the sides met in Paraguay, Ronaldo scored the game’s lone goal.

Despite the victory, Corinthians are still in fifth position and outside the zone of qualifying. Four of the best teams advance to the semifinals.

Fourth-placed Botafogo was defeated 5-0 by Sao Paulo at the Morumbi stadium. Hernanes, a midfielder, scored twice to help his team win. When the score was 0-0, goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni missed a penalty attempt.

In Sao Caetano do Sul, league-leading Santos defeated Sao Caetano 3-1 thanks in part to a goal by Brazilian international Robinho.

Other games included a 0-0 draw between Palmeiras and Oeste, a 3-2 victory for Gremio Prudente against Bragantino, and a 1-1 draw between Santo Andre and Rio Claro.
