Chile: Universidad Catolica hosts Colo Colo

Colo Colo, the most successful team in Chile, was unable to take advantage of their numerical advantage against Universidad Catolica on Saturday and was forced to settle for a scoreless draw in a hotly contested Chilean rivalry that took place during Round 9 of the Apertura tournament. Ismael Fuentes was sent off in the third minute for a foul on Ezequiel Miralles, and Catolica started the game with 10 men.

Catolica was forced to alter its tactical plan due to the choice, and it chose to defend heavily and attack mainly through counterattacks.

Colo Colo outplayed their opponents in the second half, but they were unable to overcome Catolica goalkeeper Paulo Garces, who repeatedly saved his club.

Colo Colo could have won the game in the closing stages, but Jose Pedro Fuenzalida and Roberto Cereceda failed to take advantage of two excellent opportunities that Colombian midfielder Mcnelly Torres opened up for them.

Colo Colo earned their 17th point of the year with the draw, while Universidad Catolica now has 14 points.

In the north of Chile, at the Sanchez Rumuroso stadium, 15,000 spectators watched the game.

Also on Saturday, Juan Manuel Olivera of Uruguay scored a hat-trick to help Universidad de Chile defeat Union Espanola 4-3 in extra time.

Other games were a 2-2 draw between Audax Italiano and San Luis, a 1-1 stalemate between Universidad Concepcion and Cobresal, and a 3-0 victory by Huachipato at La Serena on Thursday.
