Since 1985, Borghi has guided the Argentinos to their first championship.
Claudio Borghi, the head coach of the Argentine champion Argentinos Juniors, expressed his happiness after his side captured the regional title for the first time since 1985. Borghi said that his goal upon joining Argentinos was to assist the team in avoiding relegation to the second level of Argentina.
The Argentine Clausura title was won by Borghi’s squad on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Huracan. “It is the kind of season you dream about, and we will love it tremendously,” Borghi said.
“At first, we came to fight against being demoted, but now we are champions. After Colo Colo won four titles in Chile, the coach declared after winning his first trophy in Argentina as a coach, “We have to enjoy it.
Borghi, who also won four championships with the Argentinos as a player in the 1984 Metropolitan, 1985 National and Copa Libertadores, and 1986 Interamerican, said he is really happy with the work his players have put in.
“I’m pleased with what this team has accomplished and of our ability to claim the championship. Because of our little team, the title was incredibly difficult.
Regarding his future, Borghi said that he would decide within the next few hours whether he will stay with La Paternal after recent rumors suggested he may join Argentine powerhouses Boca Juniors.
“It is hard for me to confirm or refute anything that I haven’t discussed with anyone. They may say whatever they want, but we will have to wait and watch what occurs starting tomorrow.
“I am extremely pleased with everything that has transpired,” Borghi said in his closing remarks, “from how the players behaved to the averages, tables, goals, and (matches) lost and won.”
Borghi is the only individual to have won a championship with Argentinos Juniors as both a player and a coach with the help of his most recent victory.
