“Bolillo” Gomez has been named Colombia’s national team coach

‘Bolillo’ Gomez was named as the next coach of Colombia.

After twelve years, when Colombia last competed in the World Cup when it was held in France in 1998, Hernan Dario “Bolillo” Gomez was once again named the head coach of the national squad. Now, Gomez’s task will be to guide Colombia to the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

The Executive Committee of the Colombian Football Federation formally appointed ‘Bolillo’ Gomez, 54, as the head coach of Colombia. Leonel Alvarez, the current head coach of Independiente Medellin, will serve as Gomez’s assistant.

Francisco Maturana, a former national team coach, will keep an eye on everything that happens in Colombia’s various football leagues. This division of labor has brought back the Maturana-Gomez alliance. They oversaw Colombia’s preparations for the 1990 and 1994 World Cups.

Colombia’s first two games under Gomez’s leadership will take place in late May against South Africa and Nigeria. Looking ahead to the 2011 Copa America, Gomez will have a fantastic chance to evaluate players.

Gomez told the reporters, “The duty is extremely great, and I will take it without being afraid. And I anticipate unity, not the opposite, and the purpose of everyone is Brazil 2014,” he said.

“I have no fear. On the contrary, he said, “I’m really thrilled, extremely proud, and yes, with a very large duty to not let anyone keep their mouth shut.

Gomez sent Ecuador to the 2002 World Cup and Colombia to the 1998 World Cup, respectively.

After the 2010 World Cup, Gomez will get Colombia ready for a mini-tournament in September in Guadalajara that will also feature Mexico, Chile, and Argentina. Gomez will view it as the best possible training for the 2011 Copa America.
