Penarol is planning to build a new stadium in Uruguay

Penarol intends to construct a stadium with 40,000 seats.

The owners of Uruguayan champions Penarol are considering building a brand-new stadium with 40,000 seats. During a get-together with Saceem, the business that would probably construct the stadium, it was mentioned that the stadium will be situated in Canelones, replacing the former Carrasco International Airport.

It is unclear, though, whether Penarol will ultimately opt to leave Montevideo, Uruguay’s capital city, where they have performed for their entire existence.

The new stadium’s location will be decided in between 60 and 90 days, according to Edgar Welker, vice president of Penarol, and for the time being, 40,000 spectators are expected to attend.

This season, Penarol won the Uruguayan Clausura title with an average attendance that would guarantee sold-out stadia in the new location.

The Uruguayan government owns the 75,000-seat Centenario stadium, which is where Penarol presently plays its home games.
